Parking and accessing the footbridge

Multiple construction projects are underway along Twp. Rd. 540, between the footbridge and Rge. Rd. 232. 

  • The parking lot is still under construction. Please do not remove the barricades to park here.
  • Limited parking is available at the intersection of Twp. Rd. 540 and Rge. Rd. 232.
  • No parking is available west of Rge. Rd. 232 as the existing parking lot is under construction and on-road parking is not allowed.
  • These projects may result in the transport of large equipment, temporary road closures and delays.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists should use caution when traveling through this area and obey all traffic safety signs and closures.

Amisk Wâciw Âsokan (Beaver Hills Bridge) — a new pedestrian footbridge across the North Saskatchewan River connecting Edmonton and Strathcona County is open. This exciting project was brought to life by Strathcona County, the City of Edmonton, and the River Valley Alliance – creating stronger regional connections and easier access to the River Valley's extensive trail network.

The bridge connects Strathcona County (Township Road 540) with the City of Edmonton (167 Avenue), and links directly to The Great Trail of Canada (Trans-Canada Trail) through the local trail systems.

The bridge name, Amisk Wâciw Âsokan (ahmsk-wahCEE Ah-sho-kuhn), was gifted by Elder Dr. Jerry Saddleback and honours the Indigenous language, culture and heritage of the region's original inhabitants. It reflects the historical, cultural and ecological significance of the Beaver Hills area.

  • Two scenic lookout points offering views of the river and valley

Located near the Strathcona County Regional Trails (435.7 KB) , this new bridge invites residents and visitors to explore the outdoors in new ways – on foot or bike.

Support Amenities project

Strathcona County is constructing supportive amenities along Township Road 540 that have been partially supported by Government of Canada grant funding. The supportive amenities include the construction of:

  • A parking lot
  • Multi-use trail connection along Township Road 540
  • Gathering space
