In 2024, Strathcona County Council approved the planning and design of a proposed modernized senior centre at the current site of the Sherwood Park 55+ Club and Log Cabin. This decision was informed by the valuable feedback shared by the community and through the extensive public engagement efforts related to the Healthy Aging Strathcona County Framework.   

Phase 1: Planning and design  

Strathcona County is currently in the initial planning and design phase of the project. After completing the request for proposal process, a contract was awarded in early January (2026), for the creation of concept design options. A condition assessment report has been completed for the current Sherwood Park 55+ Club and Log Cabin site. The report indicated the condition of the building is suitable for renovation and potential expansion. 

Preliminary engagement sessions with representatives from local seniors’ groups were held in July 2025. The feedback received during these sessions, combined with feedback from previous engagement opportunities, will inform the conceptual design options. Community-wide public engagement will take place at a later date, once the project moves into the detailed design and construction phase. 

The completed concept design options will be presented to Strathcona County Council for consideration at a Council Meeting in June 2026. At the June meeting, Council will provide further direction and next steps on the senior centre project.
