Job Description

As a key point of contact within the Assessment and Tax department, the Property Tax Customer Service Representative (Property Taxation Assistant) provides essential cashier, payment, and inquiry services, ensuring customers receive clear, accurate, and timely support. Whether handling tax payments or utility bills, this role keeps operations running smoothly while delivering excellent customer service!

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional and discrete customer service through an understanding of appropriate legislation, policy and procedures regarding payment options, account balances, due dates, late payment penalties, tax certificates and receipts  
  • Administer the monthly payment program (TIPPS) – process new applications, property ownership changes/program transfers, remove delinquent accounts, balance and transmit electronic files to financial institutions  
  • Process returned payments (NSF) – debit appropriate customer accounts and prepare balance sheets for payment batches required for audit purposes
  • Provide assistance and coverage to the Property Taxation Supervisor (as required)

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma plus 3 years of recent related administrative experience in a customer service and cashier/payment support role  
  • Experience working within an assessment, tax or accounting environment is an asset  
  • Ability to adhere to critical quality standards and attention to detail are essential
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, combined with discretion and sound judgement in dealing with confidential information  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team  
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and accounting practices, including cashier and payment support procedures  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related database software systems (e.g. Tempest tax software)
