Job Description

Strathcona County’s Fleet and Facility Management department is seeking a dedicated, detail‑oriented Partsperson to support our operations. If you’re motivated, organized, and committed to excellent service, we’d love to have you on our team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support day to day materials management activities within Fleet Services
  • Procure materials, goods, and services for Strathcona County departments in alignment with County purchasing policies and procedures, ensuring the right balance of quantity, quality, timeliness and cost  
  • Order, issue, and distribute parts and materials to staff at the Strathcona Public Services Yard, Transit, and satellite maintenance facilities including Firehalls, Recreation Parks & Culture (RPC), and Josephburg shops
  • Assist with maintaining adequate inventory levels of parts, supplies and materials to meet departmental needs
  • Accurately document all data entry for purchase and issuance of parts and sublets  
  • Ensure proper steps are followed when completing invoice receipts to support accurate month end billing  
  • Assist with conducting annual inventory counts    
  • Prepare and process shipping and receiving documentation for all incoming and outgoing materials
  • Coordinate with courier services for parts and supplies not delivered directly by vendors, including preparing manifests and bills of lading

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the trade and possession of a Parts Technician Journey Person certificate  
  • Minimum of 5 years fleet maintenance experience  
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with fleet maintenance and inventory control systems    
  • Forklift operation certificate would be considered an asset  
  • Past municipal experience would be considered an asset  
  • Ability to communicate and deal with a large user client group, supervisors and the public  
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, possess leadership abilities, be a self-starter and have strong attention to detail  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to support maintenance deadlines of Fleet Services  
  • Ability to keep track of and follow up on a large quantity of pending and outstanding orders and delivery timelines (e.g. quote status, estimated delivery dates)    
  • Ability to determine appropriate vendors (e.g. O.E.M. dealers or aftermarket) and communicate detailed parts descriptions, specifications and requirements by telephone/email  
  • Working knowledge of automotive, truck, bus, heavy duty and agricultural equipment    
  • Must be aware of WHMIS procedures  

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check  
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
