Job Description
Strathcona County is extending a summer employment opportunity to undergraduate students to work with Information and Technology Services.
Students will support day-to-day technology operations, assist with the delivery and maintenance of digital solutions, and work closely with Information and Technology Services (ITS) teams to support staff and business users across the organization. This role offers exposure to enterprise platforms, service support practices, and emerging technologies while contributing to meaningful public sector services.
This posting is for 1 hourly full-time Summer Student position for up to 4 months
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Tier 1 support teams to triage issues and ensure a positive and consistent customer service experience
- Provide Tier 2 support for County applications, collaboration tools, and platforms by responding to escalated issues and service requests
- Assist with application and platform development activities, including configuration, testing, updates, and deployments under the guidance of senior team members
- Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of applications, platforms, automations, and workflow solutions
- Create and update technical documentation and user support materials for systems, applications, and processes
- Provide direct assistance to internal clients, answering questions and helping resolve system related issues
- Complete administrative and coordination tasks, such as meeting preparation, documentation, and presentations
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be enrolled or recently completed post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Sciences and/or a technology related discipline
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms, applications, or cloud services, gained through coursework, projects, coop terms, or personal learning
- Exposure to enterprise content management or collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint or similar platforms) is an asset
- Exposure to task automation or scripting concepts (e.g., PowerShell or similar tools) is an asset
- Awareness of artificial intelligence concepts, such as machine learning or large language models, is considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team based environment
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts at an appropriate level
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage tasks independently while following guidance and priorities
- Demonstrated customer service mindset, with the ability to assist users and escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to identify potential issues and redirect them to the appropriate team members or support channels
- Ability to follow safety protocols, ethical standards, professional codes of conduct, and municipal policies and guidelines
