Job Description

This posting is for an hourly seasonal position for up to 4 months  

Would you like to play a role in educating people about the impact of waste on our environment? Do you enjoy interacting with the public?  

The Utilities department at Strathcona County is seeking a Waste Diversion Program Assistants to support Strathcona County’s waste diversion programs including curbside collection program, municipal facilities, and special events. This position assists with the education and outreach activities related to the Waste Management programs including street audits, the HodgePodge Lodge and community events.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Supervisor, Waste Diversion Outreach Programs in supporting Strathcona County’s waste diversion programs, including curbside collection program, municipal facilities and special events as required
  • Provide interactive presentations at events; engage and educate residents on what happens to waste and how it affects our environment
  • Complete residential waste diversion audits and reporting results. This includes walking neighborhoods, checking for compliance with Strathcona County’s Green Routine and manual audits
  • Assisting in the HodgePodge Lodge with a variety of tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills:  

  • High school diploma with related experience engaging groups of people and interacting with the public
  • Knowledge of the Strathcona County’s Green Routine is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (outgoing and interactive approach) with the ability to engage and communicate with the public in a positive manner
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to work under time constraints

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as required as well as July 1st
