This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 18 months

 

The Guest Experience Team Lead with Glenn Allan Recreation Complex is a multifaceted role that oversees the operations of multiple work areas and performs as part of a facility-based supervisory team. The position supervises a location specific wellness centre operation and assists the Fitness Technician IV in ensuring an interconnected system of wellness choices. The role will ensure that Strathcona County Wellness Facilities, Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns Gymnasium and Glen Allan Recreation Complex spontaneous use areas are operation to the highest standards and all guests expectations are exceeded with quality services, high performing staff and equipment. This position liaises with other facility-based work areas, as well as central services for communication, budgeting, marketing, public engagement, purchasing and planning.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate staff development and training opportunities with with Glenn Allan Recreation Complex (GARC) supervisory team, Fitness Technician IV and Strathcona County Guest Service Representative teams
  • Complete all stages of the recruitment process including pre-screening, interviewing, reference checks and onboarding to fill Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns (EPKK) & GARC monitor role.
  • Collaborate with Fitness Technician III and IVs to interview and hire staff for Fitness Technician I and II roles.
  • Train new staff according to the training checklist and familiarize them with specific tasks, procedures and expectations for their work area and site
  • Create staff schedule based on collected staff availabilities and seasonal changes, implementing a system to address changing staffing needs based on bookings. Ensure questions, trades and other requests are responded to in a personal and timely manner
  • Monitor wellness staff, EPKK staff and GARC spontaneous use staff day-to-day responsibilities and activities
  • Perform OH&S related duties as outlined in the Strathcona County Occupational Health and Safety Program Manual
  • Monitor preventative maintenance programs and procedures. This includes bi-weekly staff equipment checks, coordinating preventative maintenance and repairs with contractors and Fitness Technician IV, as well as input into capital equipment purchases
  • Investigate and respond to County Connect Cases, formulating responses that are informative and positive. Review cases for trends and opportunities to increase service standards.
  • Work with Recreation Programmers for integrated service and program opportunities at EPKK
  • Work with facility supervisors and central services to create cost centre budgets and revenue projections, modify services as required to fit within budget constraints
  • Alongside facility supervisor, continuously monitor and analyse relevant statistics and financial information required to provide central services staff with budgetary usage and staffing trend data
  • Take part in biweekly supervisory meetings and contributing to team discussions and activities
  • Have a strong supervisory presence in spontaneous use areas, the wellness centre and all other work areas
  • Provide orientations and Wellness Centre tours to various potential, new and existing guests and groups

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of two years experience working in wellness/fitness centres
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory/leadership experience in recreation  
  • Post Secondary Degree in Bachelor of Kinesiology, Physical Education or related degree
  • Standard First Aid, CPR ©, and AED required
  • CSEP-CPT or equivalent required
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Software and Intelligenz  

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
