Girls Circle is a safe and supportive space for individuals in grades 5 and 6, who identify as female, to navigate the deep psychological changes and complex identity formation associated with adolescence. This referral-based program provides participants with the opportunity to:
- Develop authentic connections with their peers
- Build social-emotional skills
- Navigate friendships
- Improve self-esteem
Group members will be guided through facilitated conversations and express themselves through activities like journaling, drama, poetry, movement, and art. Themes include:
- Friendship
- Self-image
- Communication
- Conflict
- Boundaries
To participate, group members must be referred to the Family Resource Network (FRN).
How to refer a participant to Group Circle
- Step one: Identify one or two potential students who fit the above criteria and would benefit from learning in the specific areas of growth listed. Contact your school's designated Family Resource Facilitator to discuss before proceeding with referrals.
- Step two: Connect with the individual’s parent or caregiver and share the program information with them. Gauge their level of interest and discuss any potential barriers to participation.
- Step three: If the parent or caregiver and the individual are interested in participating, complete the FRN Parenting Supports Referral form and write “Girls Circle referral” in the comments section. Please note any barriers to participation on the form (ex. transportation or social anxiety).
- Step four: FRN staff will have a conversation with the parent or caregiver to share more information about the program and officially register the individual. FRN staff will also explore ways to address any barriers to participation.
