Learn about supports available to local groups operating a community hall or senior centre. Services include building maintenance, access to insurance, and information about events and grants.
Community groups operating halls or seniors' centres are responsible for cleaning the facility, removing trash and cleaning snow from entrances.
County staff or licensed contractors perform most other maintenance, and hall operators are responsible for informing the County when a repair is needed.

Community Halls and Seniors’ centres buildings are owned and insured by the County. Community groups running the halls/centres must register under the County’s liability insurance and are responsible to meet all requirements. Anyone renting a facility for an event requires event insurance. Large events and events serving alcohol require additional insurance, even when run by the hall operators.

Check the event planning toolkit for a complete guide to running events in Strathcona County.
Events at community halls and centres can take place indoors or outdoors, within the boundaries of the hall or centre. Camping may be allowed: contact the outdoor community liaison for more information and to get permits.
Advertise events happening at your hall to the Community events calendar. As long they fall within the acceptable criteria, it will appear on the County’s website – for free!
