History of governance

1893 Clover Bar area on the eastern outskirts of Edmonton (now Highway 16) was declared by the territorial legislature as Statute Labor and Fire District #2.
1913 Clover Bar became known simply as Local Improvement District #517
1943 Municipal District of Clover Bar #517 merged with the Municipal District of Strathcona #518.
1945 This larger area became known as the Municipal District of Strathcona #83.
1962 The Municipal District joined with local school divisions and was declared County of Strathcona #20.
1995 In January, the County of Strathcona #20 status reverted to a Municipal District when the County Act was repealed.
1995 In June, the County of Strathcona #20 officially changed its name to Strathcona County.
1996 On January 1, Strathcona County's status legally changed from a Municipal District to a Specialized Municipality.
