Job Description

This posting is for up to 2 hourly positions

Operating from the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment, the Guard plays a critical front-line role in maintaining the safety, security, and care of detainees while in custody. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively in a dynamic, high-responsibility environment, ensuring all activities align with RCMP policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process prisoners upon arrival, including taking photographs, documenting personal effects, completing prisoner booking documentation, and preparing and serving meals
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all prisoners at all times in accordance with RCMP policies and procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of holding cell facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • Create and maintain found property files, ensuring proper storage and disposal in accordance with RCMP policies and procedures
  • Testify in court regarding prisoner management when required


Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Familiarity with PROS; PROS access or the ability to quickly learn the system is considered an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient with computers in a networked environment


Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to obtain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
  • Availability to work shift work
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
