Job Description

This posting is for one hourly position from May – August 2026

We are seeking an energetic, customer focused post-secondary student to use their event planning experience to execute the day to day activities critical to ensuring the success of key summer events at Strathcona County. The Events and Tourism Summer Student will be responsible for assisting with the organization of the Savour Strathcona culinary event and representing the County at the Go Getter Summer Tourism pop up as well support other work in conjunction with the Economic Development team. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the event planner to coordinate the planning, promotion and execution of the Savour Strathcona culinary event celebrating local food and art 
  • Assist with executing initiatives pertaining to the tourism strategy, including the Go Getter visitor information pop up tent, curating personalized itineraries, and assisting with other tourism activities
  • Assist with various Economic Development and Tourism activities including small business programs, arranging business visits and supporting monthly webinars as directed by team members
  • Visit various business districts to identify businesses for inclusion and update in the business directory database
  • Assist with campaign coordination and content updates and data entry for department software/tools and other tasks related to investment attraction and economic diversification
  • Research small business grants, programs and funding
  • Develop various written materials for publications as directed by department staff
  • Answer and direct e-mail and telephone inquiries, draft documents and presentations and assist with scheduling meetings with restaurants and businesses, including preparation of meeting materials and handling logistics


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum third year enrollment in a degree/diploma program in business, communications, tourism, event planning or other related discipline plus one-year experience

  • Event Management experience is highly desirable 

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Initiative and confidence to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment and meet tight timelines using keen time management skills

  • Attention to detail and results oriented with the ability to handle confidential information

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, social media and a variety of related software programs

  • Experience communicating or interacting with clients or the public in both small and large group settings


Conditions of Employment: 

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence, with access to reliable transportation with the ability to transport event items as needed

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, walking, some lifting, bending, pushing and pulling
