Job Description
Are you a skilled and safety-focused plumbing professional looking to serve your community? Strathcona County is seeking a certified Journeyperson Plumber to support the safe, reliable operation of municipal facilities and infrastructure. Reporting to the Tenant Services Supervisor, the position is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of plumbing, gas fitting, hydronic heating, and HVAC-connected systems within municipal buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plumbing System Repair and Installation:
- Install, service, and repair domestic water lines, drain waste and vent systems, pumps, valves, fixtures, and appliances in municipal buildings
- Perform regular preventative maintenance to ensure plumbing systems remain in optimal working condition
- Inspect and test systems to confirm compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Hydronic Heating and HVAC-Connected Systems:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair hydronic heating and HVAC-connected systems
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance onto maximize system efficiency and lifespan
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet or exceed code requirements
- Provide emergency plumbing and gas fitting services during regular business hours and after-hours as required
- Respond promptly to urgent issues to minimize service disruptions in municipal operations
- Adhere to the National Plumbing Code, National Gas Code, Alberta Building Code, and Alberta Fire Code in all plumbing and gas fitting activities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of repairs, installations, inspections, and permits
- Ensure timely and accurate updates in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Promote and uphold all relevant occupational health and safety standards
- Stay current with advancements in plumbing systems, fixtures, gas appliances, and emerging technologies
- Monitor and apply updates to applicable codes and regulations
- Lead training sessions or workshops as a subject matter expert within the trade
Qualifications and Skills:
- Journeyperson Plumbing and Gas Fitting Certifications
- Minimum 5 years working in a related facility environment with similar job responsibilities
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams and experience working with an online asset management program is an asset
- Good understanding of Computer Maintenance Management Systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to follow safe work practices for work
- Strong interpersonal, time management skills and the ability to withstand pressure
Conditions of Employment:
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability to work from heights, work on roofs, travel stairs, lift heavy items (50lbs) and work in awkward or confined areas for an extended period of time
