Job Description

This posting is for multiple full-time summer positions for up to 4 months (May to August) with the possibility of extension.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide project management assistance in all aspects of concrete and asphalt maintenance, drainage and gravel maintenance, as well as capital projects
  • Coordinate quality control activities and report progress on construction for capital projects in both rural and urban areas (eg: residential rehabilitation program, arterial rehabilitation program, rural road re-gravel, rural drainage inspection and improvements)
  • Provide survey investigations and analysis to both urban and rural areas
  • Seek solutions to assigned challenges on special projects through research and analysis  
  • Provide recommendations to project staff and affected parties based on research findings
  • Assist in the development of presentations and reports for internal teams and external partners
  • Support project management staff in organizing and facilitating meetings with community and project partners

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering (or related) Co-op Student program along with satisfactory grades  
  • Previous construction related experience would be considered an asset  
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to the Transportation Engineering and Operations office) – mileage for work use will be reimbursed in accordance with Strathcona County vehicle allowance policies
  • Ability to work in an office environment and/or in the field as required (including remote rural areas)
  • Ability to work some overtime (evenings and weekends) as required  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties which may include moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and stand/walk for extended periods of time
