Job Description
This posting is for multiple full-time summer positions for up to 4 months (May to August) with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide project management assistance in all aspects of concrete and asphalt maintenance, drainage and gravel maintenance, as well as capital projects
- Coordinate quality control activities and report progress on construction for capital projects in both rural and urban areas (eg: residential rehabilitation program, arterial rehabilitation program, rural road re-gravel, rural drainage inspection and improvements)
- Provide survey investigations and analysis to both urban and rural areas
- Seek solutions to assigned challenges on special projects through research and analysis
- Provide recommendations to project staff and affected parties based on research findings
- Assist in the development of presentations and reports for internal teams and external partners
- Support project management staff in organizing and facilitating meetings with community and project partners
Qualifications and Skills:
- Enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering (or related) Co-op Student program along with satisfactory grades
- Previous construction related experience would be considered an asset
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to the Transportation Engineering and Operations office) – mileage for work use will be reimbursed in accordance with Strathcona County vehicle allowance policies
- Ability to work in an office environment and/or in the field as required (including remote rural areas)
- Ability to work some overtime (evenings and weekends) as required
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties which may include moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and stand/walk for extended periods of time
