Job Description

This posting is for 1 non-permanent hourly position for up to 6 months (May – October).

 

Strathcona County is extending an employment opportunity to post-secondary students enrolled in a GIS program to work with the Transportation Engineering and Operations department. This position provides an excellent opportunity for students to expand their knowledge in areas such as web GIS application development, mapping, data analysis and collection, data quality improvement, building impactful dashboards, and creating tools to support asset management.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and edit geospatial data/apps in the Strathcona County Enterprise GIS via ArcGIS Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and Enterprise Geodatabases)  
  • Perform data collection, data entry, and other tasks essential for maintaining accurate and up-to-date asset records (Note: data collection may involve field-based duties)
  • Create high-quality maps and dashboards to meet operational needs and support decision making
  • Conduct business and spatial analysis to complete assigned activities

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and enterprise geodatabases) is considered an asset
  • Basic cartographic skills and knowledge of GPS data collection
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling deadlines and interruptions while managing conflicting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete routine tasks with accuracy and focus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive image with internal and external customers and residents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn on the job and take on new challenges

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to the Transportation Engineering and Operations office)
