There are many structured and unstructured indoor skating opportunities available in Strathcona County recreation facilities. Please make sure you are aware of the below guidelines before arriving so you can have a fun and safe experience.
Pre-booking is required
Stick and Skate, Shinny Hockey and Skill Development activities require pre-booking an activity time slot at Ardrossan Recreation Complex, Glen Allan Recreation Complex and Millennium Place.Â
New activity time slots will be available daily at 7 a.m. You may cancel your time slot before it begins by calling the facility.
Stick and Skate times are intended for unstructured play/skill development with supplied soft pucks. No black pucks permitted.
Sticks are not to be used during recreational skate time.
Shared ice time for drop-in figure skating.
Bring your preschooler for a fun time on the ice! Puck and Play is an unstructured skating and stick skill practice time with soft pucks (provided).

Shinny hockey is an informal, non-contact type of hockey played on ice.
Shinny is an informal, non-contact, type of ringette played on ice. There are no formal rules or specific positions. All players in attendance agree to the shinny and facility guidelines.
Younger players will not be turned away but will need to be able to participate in the appropriate level of play. Player can decide if they want to adjust their own play or come at a different time.
Registration guidelines:
Registration opens on the day prior to the activity at 7 a.m. Admission required upon booking. Cancel your activity timeslot before it begins by calling the facility.

Please reference our facility admission rates for up-to-date information on fees. If you are a regular user of our ice surfaces, you can also choose to purchase an Active Pass+ membership for additional cost savings.
Book your time slot through RecOnline.
When arriving for your activity, quickly check in at the front desk with your name to receive your wristband.
Registering for someone else in your family
If your family member has ever participated in a registered class or membership with the county, they will be in our Reconline system. If they have been linked to your Reconline account, you will be able to select them in a drop down menu of your account to register them*.
*If your child is not appearing in your drop down, please give us a call (780-467-2211) or stop by a facility front desk and we can help with your account. If you want to book your family for the day pass rate, please call us – this option is not yet available online.
Skate sharpening services at Strathcona County facilities are operated through leases with third parties and are subject to changing availability and scheduling. There are also various local businesses (external link - Google) that offer skate sharpening services to residents.
