With the ongoing construction of Ecole Claudette-et-Denis Tardif, the south trail in Florian Park will be temporarily closed.
The south trail will be rebuilt as part of the school and school site construction.
Please see the Florian Park Trail Map for open trails during the school site construction.
Florian Park, located west of Regency Drive and south of Foxboro Drive has been designated as a future school site since 1991. On March 16, 2021, Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord and the Alberta government announced École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif has been approved for a replacement (K-12 Francophone) school in the Foxboro area in Sherwood Park.
Upon completion, the school will be able to accommodate up to 420 students in grades K to 12. The school will be part of The Greater North Central Francophone Education Region. École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif is currently located in Sherwood Park in a starter school composed of modular units, meant to be a temporary solution until a permanent school is built.
Construction began in July 2023 and the school is expected to open in September 2025.
Visit the École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif project website for more information.
A traffic study was completed for Foxboro, Foxhaven, Regency Park and The Ridge neighbourhoods. Learn more about the project.
In planning municipal land use, Strathcona County sets aside specific parcels of land that are held in reserve for schools. When a school authority plans to build a new school facility, consultations are held with the County to choose the most appropriate location based on anticipated population growth, size of the school and access to utilities. The identified lands in Florian Park were subdivided and zoned PS – Public Service in 1991 to specifically to accommodate a school in the future.
The school authority (Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, in this case) examines all the information provided and then makes its decision.
Strathcona County seeks to provide as many recreational opportunities in our community as possible. As part of its strategy to encourage early recreational use, Strathcona County uses public service green spaces for community use, such as playgrounds, until a designated school zone area is developed.
Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord has chosen the designated school site located at Florian Park (902 Regency Drive), in the Foxboro subdivision of Sherwood Park.
Construction is proposed to begin in August 2023 and last until September 2025. For information on the school construction visit Alberta Infrastructure's project page.
Further information relating to the planning and construction of the École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif replacement is on the project website.
Strathcona County is making every effort to ensure members of the Foxboro and area community continue to have access to important recreational amenities and green space. The County continues to provide public open space for residents to continue to engage in outdoor activities at this location. Playground equipment will remain available at Foxboro and McPherson Parks in the area.
