Next Step Pass Updates
Starting June 16, eligible low-impact, low-intensity classes can be pre-booked using your Next Step Pass on Recreation Online or in person at a facility. Classes will continue to be available for drop-in participation on the day of class, space permitting.
Starting July 2, all passholders must scan their pass and check-in at the front desk before participating, even if they have pre-booked their class.

Accessible fitness programs to keep you moving
Strathcona County offers a variety of Adult Wellness programs designed to be accessible, low-impact, low-intensity. These programs are ideal for participants who may not feel ready for traditional fitness classes or who are looking for a more supportive approach to staying active.
All classes are led by certified fitness instructors who promote active living in a welcoming environment. Programs are tailored to the varying needs and abilities of participants, allowing you to participate at a pace that works for you.
Remaining active while living with a chronic health condition can provide many benefits, including:
- Helping manage pain
- Slowing the progression of illness
- Improving joint function
- Building strength and balance

Next Step Individual
The Next Step program may be a good fit if you are looking for a more individualized approach to exercise or are transitioning from a medically supervised program.
Participation requires an assessment with a Certified Exercise Physiologist before registration.

What you need to know
Starting June 16, passholders can pre-book eligible low-impact, low-intensity classes using their Next Step Pass. Pre-booking can be completed online through Recreation Online or in person at a facility.
Pre-booking helps provide fair, predictable access to classes and supports safe class sizes so instructors can give participants the attention they need. While pre-booking guarantees your spot, it is not required. Classes will continue to be available for drop-in participation on the day of class, space permitting. Pre-booking guarantees your spot but is not required.
- Next Step Passes can still be purchased at a recreation facility.
- A Next Step Pass is active for 30 days from the date of activation.
- Once activated, passes cannot be extended or adjusted.
