It is important that ashes be completely cooled before placing them in the organics cart. Strathcona County has experienced a number of fires as a result of improperly disposing of still-warm ashes.

Before placing the ashes in the green cart, douse ashes with water and stir with a shovel. 

Cigarette butts must be cooled completely and put in your waste cart for disposal. 

Store carts a minimum of two metres away from the side of your house and any combustible materials if possible.
