What is a ward?

Strathcona County is divided into eight wards. Each ward is represented by a Councillor. Each Councillor is elected by the eligible voters in their ward.

How are wards created?

Ward boundaries are reviewed after the first municipal census that happens after a municipal election. Ward boundary reviews aim to make sure that the number of people living in each ward is approximately the same.

The County last reviewed ward boundaries in 2023. Council passed a new Ward Boundary Bylaw (2.8 MB) to change the boundaries of several wards. These new boundaries came into effect for the 2025 municipal election.
