Councillor Paul Smith - Ward 5
Office location/mailing address:
2001 Sherwood Drive
Sherwood Park, Alberta T8A 3W7
Paul Smith is Strathcona County Councillor for Ward 5, which includes the County's portion of the Industrial Heartland Area. His family arrived in the north Strathcona area more than 125 years ago as members of the Parry Sound Colonists.
Paul is a strong advocate for planning for the future, building community, diversified economic growth, and communication. He believes the continued health of the area, its air, land, water, and economic engines will determine the ability for everyone's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to live and work here.
Paul’s career includes working for international agribusiness, working as a director with a provincial agriculture board, as president of the Fort Rural Electrification Association and now as county councillor. Paul also serves on the Fort Air Partnership as the Alberta Industrial Heartland Association elected representative, is a director on the John S. Batiuk Regional Water Commission, and is a director on the Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response Board.
Paul, and his wife Merla, operate their family farm. Paul is family man, who is very proud of their daughter (a successful owner business in Lamont County), their son (a national manager in the oil patch living in Oklahoma), and their four grandchildren.
