Characteristics and skills
In order to function effectively in our Communications 9-1-1 Centre, an Emergency Communications Operator should have the following characteristics and skills:
An ability to multi-task, rapidly prioritize and manage stress in a fast-paced team environment.
Excellent computer and keyboard skills with the ability to adapt to changing technologies.
Excellent communication skills to effectively deal with people in person, by telephone or radio, many of whom may be in distress.
Personal characteristics of dedication and commitment to duty. ISO-based personal performance standards apply.
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited post secondary Emergency Communications program
One year of related experience
Assets CPR/AEDRestricted Radio Operators LicenseEmergency Fire Dispatch Certification from the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch
