Applications are evaluated for their alignment with the purpose of the grant, and with the outcomes outlined in the Community Initiatives Grant Guidelines.

Applications are due September 30, 2026 at 12 noon. We will notify all grant applicants in February 2027 to confirm whether they have been successful or not.

The funding year runs from March 1, 2027 to February 28, 2028. 

Yes, the information session is offered as an additional resource to further describe the granting streams. The Grant Program Team is available at 780-464-4044 or communitygrants@strathcona.ca for questions you may have throughout the grant application process. 

The purpose of each funding level is the same but the eligible applicants differs. This funding stream is for one-time funding for an innovative project or program to build individual and community resilience; build strong, healthy relationships between individuals, groups or sector partners and/or promote inclusivity and improve the sense of belonging in the community.

For the Community Initiative grants up to $2,000, applicants must be Strathcona County residents, informal groups, neighbourhood committees or community leagues.

For the Community Initiative grants up $25,000, applicants must be a registered non-profit organization in good standing.

When grant applications are received, the Family and Community Services (FCS) Grants Team reviews them to make sure they fit the selected funding stream, that they are complete, and that they meet eligibility criteria. 

For Community Initiative Grants (up to $25,000), the FCS Grants Team provides a package of eligible grant applications to the volunteer Community Grants Advisory Committee. The Community Grants Advisory Committee evaluates each application against the grant criteria and provides its recommendations to the FCS department. 

Grant allocation recommendations are then presented to Council. Council makes final decisions on the allocation of grants. 

All grant applicants will receive an email following the Council meeting. You can also watch the Council meeting live or via Strathcona County's webcast link.

Funding will be disbursed in March 2027. 

Yes. The funding will be for one year with an opportunity to re-apply for a second year if there is a second phase or need for an extended project period.

If you re-apply, there is no guarantee that funding will be granted. It is a competitive process and will be assessed with the other grant applications within that funding period.

An organization could also re-apply for one time funding for a new innovative project or initiative.

You may only hold one Community Initiatives Grant at a time.

Strathcona County Council approved the new Community Grants Policy on July 8, 2025. The new Community Grants Program has been designed to enhance impact and sustainability, and ensure the program can continue to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Strathcona County allocates $1 million to the Community Grants Program. This includes Core, Community Initiatives and Connection grant streams.
