About the strategy
The strategy helps the County attract investment in agriculture and food production, processing, and manufacturing. It also identifies ways to connect agriculture and food businesses with the resources that matter, through things like a support network, science, and extension and engagement.Â
The strategy explores what qualities and policies are required to transform Strathcona County into an ideal location for agriculture, agricultural value-added production, and food-processing. It was informed by public and local sector input along with industry analysis, acts and regulations, strategic alignment, policy, and financial and budget considerations.Â
This is your Agriculture and Food Sector Development Strategy. Its foundation must reflect our shared community values.
Connect for Food Roundtable
As one of the key goals and recommendations from the strategy, a Connect for Food Roundtable was formed and is part of a four-phase project to develop and launch a long-term, community-based agrifood initiative in Strathcona County to affect positive change along all elements of the supply-demand spectrum. Implementing a collaborative, results focused approach it is expected that, an organization will emerge to champion the initiative.
2025 Agrifood Connector
Strathcona County and Connect for Food brought together regional leaders in Alberta’s local food economy for a day of insight and collaboration. Â
The day featured the following Connect for Food activities:Â Â Â
- Supply-demand panel – diverse industry representation and perspectivesÂ
- Exchange – a hands-on networking activityÂ
- Showcase – food industry products and servicesÂ
Following the successful 2025 Agrifood Connector event, the consultants will create a results report incorporating all phases of the Connect for Food Project, and include guidelines for the implementation of a Strathcona County long-term agrifood initiative. Â Â
