Firefighter and dispatcher at a career fair

Check out the recruitment events we have to help you start your career in Strathcona County Emergency Services.

Recruitment information day

This event will be held on February 7, 2026 and is for those who are serious about a career with Strathcona County Emergency Services. Because the demand for this event is high, you must be a paramedic or currently enrolled in or accepted into a paramedic or EMT program.

This is your chance to get up close with firefighter/paramedics, recruiters and equipment. Experience some of the physical activities you will be required to do during the physical exam.

Each session is approximately 60 minutes and includes:

  • a presentation on the process and department with Q&A
  • stations where participants aged 18+ can try different physical activities in bunker gear (come prepared in workout attire and bring steel-toed boots and gloves)
  • EMS station with SIMs, with Q&A about medical knowledge and scenario testing
  • various info booths on our specialty teams and wellness programs
  • a tour of Fire Station 6
  • an expert panel discussion and Q&A with a Deputy Chief, Human Resources Talent Acquisition, a Union Local 2461 representative and a probationary department member

Session spots are limited to 20 participants. Please sign up for one session. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel to allow someone from the waitlist to attend. If you are on multiple waitlists and get into a session, please remove yourself from the other waitlists.
