Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy logoRoots of Empathy is an award-winning program devoted to building a caring, peaceful and civil society. Roots of Empathy has been bringing the wisdom of parents and babies into classrooms since 1996.

The program helps children learn about a baby's needs and development, and lets children see a loving relationship grow between parent and baby. It is through these observations and participation in the program that students begin to develop empathy skills.

Strathcona County in partnership with Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools has hosted this program since 2005.

Volunteer Families needed

Volunteer families with an infant who will be between 2 and 4 months old are needed to visit local classrooms. If you would be willing to share the joys of your baby's development an eager classroom of students is waiting for you!

Volunteer instructors needed

The program requires volunteers to facilitate this amazing program. Instructors will receive intensive training in delivering the program. The commitment is 3, 40 minute classroom visits per month for 8 months. The program follows a curriculum which requires very little prep work.
