From February 24-26, 2023, Strathcona County hosted the 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games. Over 1,200 athletes, staff and volunteers from across the province came together for a weekend of competitive sporting events and fun.
The mission of Special Olympics Alberta is to enrich the lives of Albertans with intellectual disabilities through sport. Meet our Games ambassadors Evan, Madison and Declan.
Strathcona County was excited to welcome eight unique winter sports. There was no cost or advance ticketing required to spectate sporting events, however some events had specific requirements for public viewing. Details on each sport and athlete results can be found on each of our sporting event pages:

The 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games was hosted across five venues in Sherwood Park, Ardrossan and Edmonton. Below you'll find the list of venues, the Games activities hosted at each facility as well parking and spectator information.
All facilities hosting the Games were free to enter to watch athletes compete.
Enjoy the excitement of three sports in one venue! Figure skating, speed skating and floor hockey will take place at Millennium Place, our primary Games hub facility located at 2000 Premier Way, Sherwood Park.
An ATM machine is available at this location.
The Glen Allan Recreation Complex, located at 199 Georgian Way, Sherwood Park, will be used for curling sporting events.
The Strathcona Wilderness Centre will be used for cross country skiing and snowshoeing events.
5-pin bowling watch party hosted at the Community Centre Agora, located at 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park.
The Sunridge Ski Area, located at 10980 17 Street, Edmonton, will be used for alpine skiing events.

moonGARDEN is an exciting light and sound installation composed of 5 self-inflated vinyl spheres. The size of the spheres, the surprising technique of shadow projection and the poetic soundscape all contribute to creating a unique and immersive experience.

Strathcona County is pleased to present “Around You / Near You: Shaped in the Studio”, an exhibition featuring the artwork of 11 local artists from Sherwood Park and Edmonton. The exhibit opens at Gallery@501 on February 3 and shows until March 3, 2023.
The Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, Robin Hood Association and Winder Inclusive Communities Service (WICS) have collaborated on this exhibition with Gallery@501. Inspired by the work these talented artists are doing in the studio, these community organizations have partnered to celebrate and exhibit their impactful artwork.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Sherwood Park, Alberta (Google Maps link) has rooms available for the friends and family of Games athletes.
Strathcona County worked with enthusiastic volunteers from the community to join in the celebration of the 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games.
