The Projects

Centre in the Park

The vision for Centre in the Park is to create a centre for Strathcona County - a heart for our community.

This compact, mixed-use centre will become a place where people live, work and play. Centre in the Park combines municipal services, local government, residences, retail services and inviting public spaces. In redeveloping this area, the project will provide linkages with existing amenities such as Broadmoor Lake Park, Festival Place, the trail system, businesses and schools. Heat and hot water in Centre in the Park is provided through a Community Energy System. The project is also home to the new Community Centre, which includes the Strathcona County library, art display space, and municipal offices.

Salisbury Village

Salisbury Village is a compact, mixed-use community currently under development in Sherwood Park. The project is located south of Wye Road, between Brentwood Boulevard and Sherwood Drive.

The Salisbury Village Area Structure Plan is divided into three sub-areas - Wye Road Crossing (West portion), Cambelltown Village (Central portion), and the Devco Lands (East portion).

Collectively the areas will form a model of 21st Century community that retains the natural flow of the landscape and wetlands, encourages green building technologies, and reduces resource use, energy use, and waste production where possible. It will introduce a diverse mix of higher density multiple family housing to complement the rich array of commercial uses. The central Cambelltown Village will blossom into a complact pedestrian-oriented community centred around a high street where biking, walking, and local transit provide for the needs for many of its residents and businesses.

The result will form a complete community where residents, businesses and visitors do not have to go far to have everything they need to live, work, play and learn in a compact neighbourhood adjoining a rural setting.

Emerald Hills Urban Village

Emerald Hills Urban Village (EHUV) is a 20 hectare (50 acre) diverse neighbourhood development within Sherwood Park, Alberta. The project is located north of Lakeland Drive, between Clover Bar Road and Eton Boulevard.

Emerald Hills Urban Village follows the concept that a sustainable community and quality of life are intrinsically connected. The project uses technology to reduce energy and resources while the design focuses on the natural environment to enhance well-being.The plan for the Emerald Hills Urban Village allows for diversity in employment, business and housing to bring in a range of ages and lifestyles to the area.  A sense of community is enabled through culture, art and places to interact. All elements within the project interconnect to build a sense of community.

This urban village was the pilot project for the SuN LIVING approach. SuN LIVING is a single, inclusive approach for planning, designing and implementing a sustainable neighbourhood. It is a process that links broader concepts of sustainable development and sustainable living to detailed neighbourhood-scale actions through a structured planning and design work plan. The design for the urban village was developed by a multistakeholder group including Strathcona County and a group of developers. as a partnership between Strathcona County, a group of developers and Natural Resources Canada. More information on this multistakeholder group can be found on the Emerald Hills Urban Village website.
