Cambrian-Strathcona Joint Planning Initiative

The Cambrian-Strathcona Joint Planning Initiative (CSJPI) is a project initiated by Strathcona County and the Cambrian Group of Companies to jointly lead the planning, development and implementation framework to create a complete and sustainable leading edge community that balances economic viability & vitality, environmental enhancement, social equity and cultural richness.
The project focus is the land indicated in the map bellow.

This land represents the last significant portion of undeveloped land within the boundarys of the Sherwood Park Urban Service Area. As such, it is key location to apply the Strathcona County's sustainable planning principles. The location is also a natural stepping stone between the Urban Service Area and the new Urban Growth Node identified east of Highway 21 and north of Highway 16.
The Vision
This leading edge, sustainable community will be uniquely integrated for living, working, learning, playing and relaxing. Inspired by its rural roots, recognizable location and natural landscape features such as Oldman Creek it will become a series of mixed uses that embrace sustainable development and sustainable living practices where:
- Diversity and choice of industry, business and housing are available;
- Residents, business owners, workers and visitors choose walking, biking and transit as preferred means of mobility in the community;
- A variety of employment options are integrated throughout the community; and
- The health, well being and culture of the community and the environment are respected and realized.
From January 24 to January 28, 2010, CSJPI held a Design Charrette. This included a planning and design workshop on January 25, 2010 and a presentation on January 28, 2010. Local landowners and other identified key stakeholders were invited to these two events.
The results of this four day process were further refined into the Cambrian Crossing Development Plan. Based on this Development plan, revisions to the existing Area Concept Plan and a new Area Structure Plan were prepared. The North of Yellowhead Area Concept Plan and Cambrian Crossing Area Structure Plan received 2nd and 3rd readings by Strathcona County Council on January 25, 2011.
