Dear Santa
Published December 22, 2004
I know this is rather late and you are very busy at this time of year but I am hoping that you could add a few items to my Christmas wish list. For Councillor Lawrence I would like you to find another pair of Sorrel boots so the ones that sit outside his office door can be replaced. Councillor Osinchuk would no doubt appreciate a big party in 2005 to celebrate Sherwood Park's 50th birthday and while we are on items for Council I would like a set of dictionaries so that everyone can compare the definitions of the words "fee" and "tax", and Webster instead of Fenske, can explain the recycling tax (note, not fee).
For Mike MacGarva, Strathcona's Manager of Public Works, please put a package of crayons in his stocking so that when it comes time to highlight the road projects for 2005 he does not run out of colors before he gets to Ward 5. Ward 5 has some special events coming up in 2005 to celebrate Alberta's Birthday, Ardrossan's picnic and parade in June and Josephburg's special celebration in August are only two such celebrations. For eight families North of Highway 15 surrounded by industry I trust you can find new homes so that industry, which benefits all of Strathcona through its taxes and jobs, can continue to expand and yet the residents well being will still be looked after.
Do let me keep my burning barrels on large parcels and let the Ardrossan's yearly garden waste bonfire continue. I look forward to the big Christmas tree you are no doubt getting for Dinah Canart next year for the top of Heartland Hall. I have always felt we needed a little more Christmas in the country - what would you have in mind for Ardrossan?
I really should just be thankful for everything I have already received, a great Council and Mayor to work with, three wonderful "provincial elves" to work on behalf of Strathcona County under "the dome", great people to represent and a wonderful and supportive family, and believe me I am but, if you could just squeeze in those few extras along with a significant surplus for administration to work with, it would just top off my stocking.
p.s. If the two deer my family hit over the past two months were two of your special deer I would gladly lend you a couple horses to make your rounds in Strathcona County on December 24.
Not too Naughty,
Jacquie Fenske

On a serious note, from our home to yours I wish you all a Merry Christmas, and truly great 2005!
