Post-election message to Residents
Published November 26, 2010
My Fellow Residents
As this is my first newspaper column since our recent election I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your confidence in me by providing the opportunity to serve you for another term.
Wow! What an election. The people of Strathcona County really spoke up about their needs, wants and desires. With the election of a new Mayor and three new Councillors they told us that the status quo is not acceptable. They reiterated their concerns in terms of governance, a hospital for our community, the proposed 20+ story power lines along our western boundary as well as a number of other items.
Along with the election, the last number of months has been a whirlwind of activity. Council and Administration moved into our new Community Centre; our new Library opened its doors for the public - what a spectacular building; Council determined its direction at our retreat - we determined a number of priorities which I will speak about in my upcoming newsletter; Council set up the committees upon which each of us will serve you in the next year – I recently sat in on interviews from which Council will select members of the public to serve on the boards and committees for our municipality. I personally would like to thank all of you who put your name forward as the number and calibre of individuals was outstanding and we are so fortunate in this municipality to be blessed with your generosity; but most importantly, Council is reviewing and will be approving our Budget for 2011 - if anyone has any comments on the direction they would like to see our municipality move, please feel free to let me know.
I could go on and on but they give me only so much space and I would like to invite all of you to the GRAND OPENING of the entire COMMUNITY CENTRE on Sunday, December 5. Look for details in the newspaper. I know you will be amazed and as someone said to me the other day, “Strathcona County has grown up and I am proud to call it my own”.
I am looking forward to the next three years as your representative from Ward 1 on Council because I believe the potential for our municipality is unlimited. I am delighted with the makeup and leadership of our Council and especially our new Mayor, Linda Osinchuk, as they exude the positive attitude we need to take our municipality into the next phase of our evolution. I am just humbled to be a part of the team.
I know I will not get another opportunity before Christmas so on behalf of my wife Susan, myself and our entire family, may you and yours have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
