Council busy making County better

Published July 8, 2011

Wow! What a magnificent place to live and bring up a family. My family has just enjoyed one of the greatest experiences of our life having participated in the annual Canada Day celebrations put on and coordinated by our County. My youngest grandson said it best with his words, “Grandpa this was the best Canada Day I have ever been in”. These words from the mouth of one of the future generations of our municipality I believe, go a long way to indicate we as a municipality are moving in the right direction and with the right spirit.

Even though it took its time in arriving, I especially love this time of year with its warmth and vitality. It revitalizes my spirit and my resolve to work even harder on your behalf. We as a Council have experienced an unbelievable first part of our mandate with the efforts and accomplishments of the past eight months. While Council as a whole needed to work together to fulfill our goals, I would like to extend a special thank you to Mayor Linda for her vision and leadership. No matter how hard a team works, without vision and leadership it may accomplish nothing or go nowhere.

While we have been busy and extremely involved with a number of very pressing issues such as the proposed 550 Kv power lines, the revamping of our sign bylaw, the expansion of the ice at Millennium Place and Ardrossan, as well as our own governance policies just to name a few, Council has impressed me with their resilience and tenacity. We are also looking forward to a new Organizational Review plus an Employee Survey to help our staff in their operational responsibilities.

This Municipality has grown exponentially over the past few years and is moving in an exciting and dynamically positive direction. Our motto of Live, Work and Play reflects I believe, today more than ever, our community spirit. I can’t wait to see what possibilities lay ahead for us, our children and our grandchildren.

We hope you all have a very enjoyable and safe summer and if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
