Avian Influenza Update – September 8, 2025

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in a flock within the area. This contagious viral disease affects a wide range of domestic and wild bird species.  To help prevent the spread of avian influenza, producers are encouraged to maintain strict biosecurity measures and prioritize early detection. While it is not possible to completely prevent the introduction of avian influenza viruses into Canada—due to their presence in wild birds, particularly waterfowl—an effective biosecurity plan remains the most critical tool for protecting domestic poultry.
