Rural high-speed Internet service

High-speed Internet access is becoming increasingly important in everyday life, whether it’s required for school, business or even entertainment. Strathcona County has recognized that many rural residents within the County have unsatisfactory access to this service.

As a result, Strathcona County is launching an exciting and innovative new program to work with area Internet service providers (ISPs) to improve the availability of Internet service for our rural residents.

Still in the design stages, the program expects to see several new towers erected in rural Strathcona County by the end of 2015, and dozens more erected over the next three years. New tower sites will be selected on a priority basis, as the County strives to improve Internet access for the highest number of rural residents, as quickly as possible. The new 'local’ towers will act as a bridge between the larger existing infrastructure towers and residents in hard-to-reach rural areas.
