Working together towards a sustainable community

In 2007, the community energy system project was selected as a finalist for an Emerald Award in the Climate Change category.

The Emerald Awards recognize and reward the excellent environmental initiatives undertaken each year by large and small corporations, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups and governments.

The Climate Change category acknowledges positive initiatives that reduce greenhouse gases and raise awareness about climate change.

Some of the award criteria include:

  • leading by example
  • innovation
  • can the initiative be used in another area
  • how the project eliminated or mitigated any negative impacts associated with the project.

This project is not only a great example of how Strathcona County is working to provide a sustainable environment for our residents; it is also a great example of the team effort required to deliver an innovative project.

The awards were hosted in Calgary, AB on June 6, 2007.
