Friendly Rural Yard Contest

Graphic showing rural propertyOnce again we are pleased to offer the Friendly Rural Yard Contest to recognize rural residents who are making environmentally conscious decisions when landscaping and maintaining their properties.

You can enter your own yard, or nominate someone you know.
Winners will receive a beautiful gate sign.

Judging criteria

Entries will be assessed on these features:

  • Use of drought-tolerant or environmentally friendly plants 
  • Use of native plant material
  • Yard maintenance
  • Innovative design and usage of plant material
  • Wildlife gardens or areas
  • Alternative energy usage and water consumption
  • Agricultural parcels will also be judged on sustainable agricultural practices including shelterbelts, rotational grazing, offsite watering and protection of riparian areas.

There is no nomination fee.

Categories

  • farms—over 40 acres
  • small holdings—agricultural parcels 40 acres and under
  • acreages—non-agricultural parcels over one acre
