Where to park when using Park and Ride facilities
Parking changes at Strathcona Station
Beginning May 7th, an area of the parking lot has been closed due to construction, reducing parking by approximately 100 spots. Fortunately, this parking disruption will only be for a couple of months and the spots will likely be restored in August before the back to school crunch happens. In the meantime, we encourage those who must drive to the station to obey all parking signs in the neighbourhood, Use transit parking and appropriate street parking areas. Please respect our neighbours and do not park for Transit in commercial lots.
If you are having a hard time finding parking at Strathcona Station, consider parking at the Transit Centre off Wye Road or at one of our satellite lots (information below). With the majority of university students taking the summer off, parking issue have a bit of a reprieve at this time. Other options also include using local service or carpooling.
Satellite parking lots
While using local service is still your best option to reduce parking stress, Transit has found satelite parking lots where commuters who must use their cars can still park. When using the shuttle service, please be prepared to show your passes and tickets to ride. Shuttles are designed to connect with the Commuter buses. for example, if you generally catch the 7:30 a.m. commuter, you need to be on the 7:15 a.m. shuttle.

Glen Allan Recreational Complex (GARC) - 25 parking stalls
- Lot users will take the Route 425 at stop #1018 to arrive at the Transit Centre, adding 15 minutes to their commute.
Kinsmen Leisure Centre (KLC) - 50 parking stalls
- Lot users will take the Transit Centre shuttle, adding 10 minutes to their commute.
- during non-peak hours, use Route 427 at stop #6029.
Sherwood Park Log Cabin - 60 parking stalls
- Lot users will take the Transit Centre shuttle, adding 5 minutes to their commute.
- During non-peak hours, use Route 425 at stop #6047.
Many transit riders are curious about where they can park if they choose to use Strathcona County Transit's Park and Ride service. Park and Ride lots are available for use during Transit service hours at both the Transit Centre on Ordze Road and at Strathcona Station on Bethel Drive in Sherwood Park.
Strathcona Station - Bethel Drive
Strathcona Station has approximately 300 spots currently available for Park and Ride users. The gravel lot entrance is next to the Recycle Centre. There is extremely limited street parking because the curb surrounding the parking area is used to board buses. There is no parking in bus zone. Parking in a bus zone will result in ticketing and potential towing of your vehicle.
Park and rider users at Strathcona Station are also reminded to respect our neighbours. Parking in the commercial lots adjacent to Strathcona Station is not allowed. Our neighbours have been very patient and do all they can to avoid having Transit user's car towed, however it is their right to do so. So please, park only in designated Transit areas.
Good news!
Strathcona Station is the future site of the Bethel Transit Terminal. As part of the new terminal there will be approximately 1200 surface parking stall available for Park and Ride users. The terminal is expected to open in fall of 2013. For more information on the new terminal, click here.
Transit Centre - Ordze Road
The Transit Centre has approximately 200 spots in the two-story parkade, with an addition 150 (approximately) spots on Fir Street. Park and ride users are invited to use these stalls while using Transit whether it is regular commuter service or one of our special event shuttles. Lots tend to fill up early in the morning with our average rider boarding their commuter buses between 7 - 8 a.m. The earlier you arrive the more likely you are to get a spot.
Users are asked to respect all parking signage both on Fir street and in the Village on the Lake neighbourhood. failure to do so may result in a parking ticket from Bylaw enforcement.
You may have heard recently that we have lost some of the parking stall that were available at the Transit Centre. This is true. Until recently we had a number of additional spots available to Park and ride users. Come September, this will result in parking being at a premium. We highly recommend users consider one of the options below to ease the demand on parking.

As of May 28, 2012, the overflow parking lot on Fir Street, west of the Sherwood Park Transit Centre, will be permanently closed due to the construction of the Anthony Henday (Hwy 216) Drive.
The closure of the overflow parking lot, which was available through a temporary lease of the provincially-owned Transportation Utility Corridor land, is necessary for the Province to continue construction of the Anthony Henday highway.
While parking is still available in the Transit Centre parkade and in designated areas along Fir Street, the closure will result in significantly less Park n’ Ride parking spaces.
Transit users are reminded to observe the no-parking signs on Fir Street and in Village on the Lake. Parking in commercial parking lots in the area is for shop customers only.
To avoid parking issues, the following options are available:
Use local Strathcona County Transit service
- Local travel is included in both commuter passes and U-Passes
- Local service is designed to connect with the commuter service
- Local schedules are available online or from a Customer Service Representative

Q. Why is the lot closing?
A. Due to continued construction on highway 216, the province requires the land our overflow lot is currently located on. This land has always been the Province’s and was only leased to us by the Province.
Q. Where will I park now?
A. There are still over 250 stalls available at the Transit Centre parkade, plus the additional parking along Fir Street. Over the summer we do not foresee the closure as having a great impact on users, but once September comes, the influx of students may create a parking crunch.
Transit recognizes that some of our patrons must use their cars as part of their daily commute. While it is not ideal, Transit has arranged for a number of spots to be available at:
Glen Allan Recreational Complex (GARC) - 25 stalls
Kinsmen Leisure Centre (KLC) - 50 stalls
Sherwood Park log cabin - 60 stalls
Shuttle service will provided at both KLC and the log cabin at approximately 15 minute intervals during peak-hours. They are designed to connect with the commuter routes. So if you normally catch a 7:30 a.m. commuter bus, you need to be on the 7:15 a.m. shuttle to arrive at the Transit Centre on time. During non-peak hours, KLC users will take the 427 at stop #6029 and Log Cabin user will take the 425 from stop #6047. Users of the GARC lot will ride the route 425 from stop #1018. The 425 runs on 15 minute service during rush hour.
Q. If there is no parking how do I get to my commuter bus?
A. Transit encourages users to take their local transit route. It is excellent service that will result in approximately 15-20 minutes of travel time from their neighbourhood stop to the Transit Centre for the average rider. The local service is designed to connect with all commuter routes. Local transit use also helps keep Strathcona County sustainable, by having fewer cars on the roads. This helps lower overall fuel emissions and maintain a healthy environment.
Q. I’m a rural resident. There is no local route for me to take. How will I get to the commuter buses?
A. Transit recognizes that local service is not as convenient for our rural riders. We anticipate that people within Sherwood Park will use the local transit, thus freeing up parking spaces for rural users. Rural riders can also participate in the secondary options for avoiding the parking crunch, including carpooling and Kiss and Ride.
Q. Can I park in nearby commercial lots or residential areas?
A. Commercial lots in the area have a sufficient number of spots for their individual patrons based on building/planning requirements. These business have the right to tag and tow cars that are not business patrons.
