Public Member Appointments
Each year Council invites residents to apply for public member terms on Council Committees and Boards as well as a number of external Committees. At their meeting of November 29, 2011, Council appointed the following members.
2012 Public Member Appointments
Accessibility Advisory Committee
Identifies and minimizes barriers in municipal facilities, public spaces, programs or services and promotes equitable participation by persons with disabilities in the community.
Agricultural Service Board
Considers agricultural matters and makes recommendations to County Council. Preference may be given to agricultural producers.
Assessment Review Board
A quasi-judicial body which hears complaints against assessments and makes decisions respecting these complaints. Preference will be given to individuals with previous experience with quasi-judicial or decision-making boards, and/or applicable experience in assessment, law, economics and/or finance.
Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee
Assists Administration and Council with the implementation of the strategic objectives contained in the Economic Development and Tourism Strategy.
Energy Exploration Committee
Provides landowner and resident feedback on oil and gas exploration, extraction and pipelines in the community to the Energy Exploration Office and Council.
Environmental Advisory Committee
Advises Council on issues related to the environment and assists Administration and Council with environmental policies and initiatives.
Information and Volunteer Centre Board of Directors (External Board)
Sets policy and oversees the operation of an innovative centre that connects the community to information and volunteer resources.
Library Board (External Board)
A policy governance board responsible for the Library. Strathcona County appoints Board members.
Permanent Art Collection Advisory Committee
Obtains art for the Permanent Art Collection of Strathcona County and makes recommendations on how and where the art is displayed. Preference may be given to representatives from organized visual arts groups and/or individual artists from Strathcona County.
RCMP Community Advisory Committee (External Committee)
Brings forward public concerns with regard to police service. Listens, evaluates and provides input into planned police programs. To ensure balanced urban and rural participation, an urban resident is required.
River Valley Alliance (External Board)
A board that works to protect, preserve and enhance the North Saskatchewan River Valley for the year-round enjoyment of citizens and visitors to the Alberta Capital Region.
Seniors Advisory Committee
Advises Council regarding seniors' needs, issues, and concerns, and ways to enhance the quality of life for seniors in our community.
Strathcona Youth Justice Committee (External Committee)
Administers the Extrajudical Sanctions Program to young offenders, affording them the opportunity to make amends for their offence with restorative justice practices. Works under the direction of the Solicitor General through Correctional Services. Involves cooperation within the community, the police and community service agencies.
Subdivision and Development Appeal Board
Hears appeals regarding the decisions of the Subdivision Authority and Development Authority. Preference will be given to individuals who have previous experience with quasi-judicial or decision-making boards; and/or applicable experience in law, planning, management.
Youth Advisory Committee
To provide a mechanism for direct input and interaction between youth and Council for the purpose of facilitating discussion regarding youth needs and issues.
