Coordinator, Finance and Business Planning

Community Services Division

We are seeking a Coordinator, Finance and Business Planning to join our team.  You are a seasoned professional, with practical experience in planning and guiding of financial and business objectives within a multi-faceted organization. 

In addition to a solid and extensive understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, you have proven ability to lead and influence.  Known for collaborating with others to achieve business objectives and results, you effectively establish and maintain good working relationships with management and staff at all levels in an organization to bring positive and valuable business solutions to the table.

Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Community Services, the Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance and support to departmental finance staff within the division.  The Coordinator facilitates the financial and business planning process for the division by working with departmental finance staff, department directors, corporate financial services and Executive Team (ET) to meet organizational priorities and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • develop and facilitate divisional short and long term financial and business planning processes based on the direction set by Council and ET
  • effectively and diplomatically translate direction of Council and ET to departments within the division
  • provide a liaison and advocacy role betwen departments and corporate financial services
  • develop and administer annual and multi-year operating and capital budgets, grant applications and reporting and financial analysis
  • provide long-term financial, business and strategic planning advice and guidance for the division and departments
  • create, facilitate and lead cross-functional teams established to achieve corporate goals and priorities
  • provide guidance, direction and leadership to the department finance staff within the division
  • oversee and manage special projects including the County's RCMP contract and the photo enforcement program 

Qualifications:

  • a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) with a minimum of five years experience in progressively responsible financial management roles, preferably in a municipal environment
  • extensive understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and reporting
  • demonstrated understanding of public sector accounting board guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles
  • understanding of procurement practices and standards and experience in negotiating and managing significant contracts• excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • proven organizational, analytical and decision-making skills; experience working in a politically sensitive environment

The annual salary range for this permanent position is $82,788-$103,485.
