Muscular Dystrophy Events
Support Muscular Dystrophy and our firefighters' efforts
Strathcona County Emergency Services are proud supporters of Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MD). A number of fundraising events are planned in March. Come out and support a great cause!
March 1 - 17
Give a little, help a lot! Purchase a shamrock for $1 at any of the five fire stations in Strathcona County. Personalize it and we will display it at the fire station.
Shamrocks are also available at:
- Wye Road Safeway
- Average Joe's Sports Bar
- Merle Norman (in Sherwood Park Mall)
- Trendz
March 9 - 12
Thank you Strathcona County !
For the first time ever, Strathcona County firefighters camped on top of Fire Station #1 (1933 Sherwood Drive, Sherwood Park) to raise awareness and donations for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Similar camp-outs were held in Edmonton, St Albert and Winnipeg, with a friendly contest to see which department could raise the most donations. Lieut. Mike Nicholson reports that $20,000 and counting has been raised within Strathcona County. "We're really proud of our community. It was a David-and-Goliath thing going against Edmonton," said Nicholson. Donations are still being accepted at any of the five fire stations in Strathcona County or online at www.muscle.ca/campout
March 17
Join us at the 2nd annual St. Patty's Day celebration and silent auction at Average Joe's Sports Bar in Sherwood Park. The event starts at 6 p.m. Throughout the evening, on-duty fire crews will stop by for photo opportunities. Donations for the silent auction are gratefully accepted at Fire Station #1.
