Strathcona County rings in the new year with family-friendly fun

Celebrate the arrival of 2022 with Strathcona County’s annual New Year’s Eve Festival! Round up the whole family and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, games, dancers, snacks and a fireworks show.

This year’s festival will be held outdoors on Friday, December 31 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. throughout Broadmoor Lake Park and area. Kids will enjoy a variety of fun activities like remote-control bobsled races, pony rides and princess story times, while the whole family can warm up over hot chocolate, cook s’mores on a campfire or have their caricature drawn. The festivities wrap up with a fireworks show at 8 p.m.

Parking on Oak Street, Sunset Place and Park Lane is for local residents only from 3 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Festival Way will be closed during this time.

On New Year’s Day, dress warmly and join the winter fun at Strathcona Wilderness Centre.

  • 10 a.m.: Annual Troll in the Wilderness cross-country ski loppet, distances 1 kilometre to 10 kilometres
  • 1 to 4 p.m.: snowshoeing and cross-country skiing
  • 1:30 p.m. or 3 p.m.: toonie ski lessons
  • 2 p.m. toonie snowshoe ramble

The New Year’s Eve Festival and News Year’s Day activities are hosted outdoors and therefore excluded from Strathcona County’s adoption of the Provincial Restrictions Exemption Program. In accordance with provincial health restrictions, two-metre physical distancing must be maintained by attendees at all times. Mandatory masking is required to use an indoor washroom or to rent equipment at the Wilderness Centre. Residents should stay home if they feel unwell, and are required to isolate if they have COVID-19 or core symptoms.
