Neighbourhood traffic safety is focused on residential areas, including low-speed roads and school and playground zones. Many resident concerns about traffic safety in our community are concentrated in these areas, and are related to speeds, short-cutting and pick-up and drop-off operations at school.

The Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Action Plan

The Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Action Plan (NTSAP) was developed to define key actions that can be taken to improve the safety and livability of Strathcona County’s residential areas while at the same time making the best use of municipal resources.

CARTS (Community Action on Residential Traffic Safety) is a group of local residents who are passionate about promoting safety and quality of life in their neighbourhoods by engaging their community to help tame residential traffic.  Learn more about CARTS.

The Strathcona County School Traffic Safety Partnership

The increase of traffic at schools during peaks hours has resulted in traffic congestion and parking issues. Add pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders and buses and you have a very challenging traffic safety environment. The Strathcona County School Traffic Safety Partnership (STSP) has been formed to address these school-related traffic safety issues. 

The best way to address specific traffic safety concerns is for parents to contact their school administrators and work together to address the problem. The STSP will act as a resource for schools when concerns can’t be easily addressed at the school level.
