Groups offered for Youth and Children

  • Competent Kids - This is a social skills building group for children in grades 1 to 3 and 4 to 6.

  • Parachute Group - Parachute Group provides support to children ages 5 to 11 who are experiencing the effects of a separation and/or divorce.
  • Boys Will Be Boys - This group utilizes a strength-based approach to promote boys healthy passage through the pre-teen years.
  • Girls Friendship Circle - This group provides girls aged nine to thirteen years an opportunity to interact with other girls and enhance their relationships.

Groups for Adults: NO COST

Men's Drop-in Group

Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

This weekly drop-in group creates space for men to discuss and explore strategies to help each other through some of life’s challenges while helping to foster a sense of self-worth and growth. The group largely functions upon what participants bring, with common themes including healthy relationships and masculinity, compassion, stress and anxiety, and depression. With the assistance of the group leaders, the participants are given the opportunity to share and support others as they feel comfortable. If you are an adult and identify as male, feel free to drop-in on Tuesday evenings as needed. No pre-registration is required, and participants can drop-in on Tuesday evenings as needed.

 

NEW!  Next Steps Drop-in Group  

Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Next Steps in Support, is a weekly drop-in group that deals with a wide variety of topics including stress, relationships, emotions, grief, family, etc., and is open to everyone.

As the name suggests, Next Steps is a solution focused group with the goal to support participants in building their next steps in navigating solutions to their concerns. With the assistance of the group leaders, the participants will also learn more about strengths and self-care. No pre-registration is required, and participants can drop-in on Wednesday evenings as needed.

 

SELF - Women's Drop-in Group

Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This weekly drop-in group is designed for women to gather together creating space for support and encouragement. Professionally facilitated, weekly drop-in format provides opportunity to discuss and support each other in dealing with life’s challenges. This group is designed to address common challenges facing women today including healthy relationships, self-confidence, grief/loss, depression, stress and anxiety while moving towards empowering self. If you are an adult and identify as female, feel free to drop-in at Family and Community Services. No pre-registration is required, and participants can drop-in on Thursday evenings as needed 

Want to Facilitate a Group?

Strathcona County Family and Community Services provides an array of groups to residents of Strathcona County. On an ongoing basis we are recruiting people who are interested in sharing their existing skills and  learning some new ones while earning a supplemental income.

 Counselling Services are available to individuals, couples and families.
