Candidates must file papers between 9 a.m. and 12 noon
Nomination Day for the Strathcona County 2017 General Municipal Election is Monday, September 18. Anyone running for Mayor or Councillor must officially file nomination papers on this date, between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.
Candidates for Mayor and Councillor must file nomination papers in Council Chambers at the Strathcona County Community Centre located at 401 Festival Lane in Sherwood Park.
A person may be nominated as a candidate in Strathcona County's municipal election, if on Nomination Day the person is:
- 18 years of age or older
- a Canadian Citizen
- a resident of Strathcona County and the ward in which they intend to run for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding Nomination Day (a resident since March 18, 2017)
- not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.
Circumstances for candidate ineligibility for nomination are listed in Sections 22 and 23 of the Local Authorities Election Act.
Election Day is Monday, October 16, 2017.
The Mayor and Councillor positions will serve a four-year term.

Candidates running for Trustee for Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools should visit the respective school board website for information on requirements and the nomination process.
