Range Roads 231 and 232 between Highway 630/Wye Road and Highway 628/Whitemud Extension connect communities in south Strathcona County to Sherwood Park. These roads will require upgrades as growth and development occur.

Strathcona County conducted a Functional Planning Study (FPS) for Range Roads 231 and 232. A FPS looks at the long-term needs of the roads including the number of lanes, intersection controls, trail, and drainage requirements.

The study recommends improvements to maintain safety and traffic flow to support future growth. To support future traffic volumes, several intersections have been identified to require future improvements. The study’s preferred long-term intersection improvement was recommended to be roundabouts, traffic signals interrupt traffic flow, while roundabouts maintain traffic flow, improve safety, and have lower operational costs.
