Proposed budget maintains services and manages growth

Today Strathcona County Administration began presenting Council with the proposed 2025-2028 budget which includes a 3.87 per cent property tax increase for 2025 to maintain high service levels and introduce a new focus on managing growth. This tax increase is inclusive of the 2 per cent recreation infrastructure tax Council approved in 2023.

“This budget reflects our commitment to responsible stewardship and strategic investment, balancing today’s needs with a vision for future growth and stability,” says Jennifer Cannon, Chief Financial Officer for Strathcona County. “Our aim is to continue delivering exceptional value to our community while ensuring that every dollar supports meaningful progress for Strathcona County.”

With a modest 3.87 per cent tax revenue adjustment in 2025, the estimated impact for a typical residence assessed at $460,000 would be about $85 per year, or roughly $7 per month. For a commercial property assessed at $1.93 million, the estimated impact is around $785 annually, or $65 per month. Strathcona County remains proud to offer the region’s most competitive tax rates, ensuring continued value for both residents and businesses.

Following Council’s budget deliberations, the 2025 budget will be approved, with the budgets for 2026 to 2028 approved in principle.

Budget meetings are webcast to keep residents informed about budget considerations, the reasoning behind decisions and final outcomes. The public can watch the sessions live or recorded at strathcona.ca/webcasts
