Join the conversation about Strathcona County’s open spaces

Strathcona County is entering a new phase of the Open Space Master Plan (OSMP) and is seeking community input to continue to shape the plan!

The Open Space Master Plan, which is currently underway, is an important component of Strathcona County’s development to ensure the County continues to provide a welcoming place to live and the right mix of open spaces, programming and amenities to support our community into the future.

The OSMP will help to guide the County’s decisions around park planning, development and operations by identifying actions, prioritizing key projects and outlining planning initiatives. As a strategic document, the OSMP will build upon existing plans and policies, while ensuring public needs and perspectives are included.

Over the summer, residents were asked about their vision for Strathcona County’s open spaces through a short survey. Residents shared that they would like to see increased accessibility, enhanced access to nature and open spaces as welcoming and safe for all community members. From the survey results, a strong appreciation was shown for local and regional trail systems and active recreation such as outdoor sports and youth play in the community.

From now until November 6, there are three ways to participate in this next phase of the project:

  1. Complete the online survey about open space experiences, priorities and preferences.
  2. Drop a pin on the interactive map to tell us about the strengths, opportunities and challenges of Strathcona County’s open space system.
  3. Join a community open house where you can learn more about project progress, chat with the project team and share feedback.
