Census 2022 – My household counts!

Starting May 1, Strathcona County will be conducting a municipal census. A census PIN letter will be mailed to every household in the County with instructions to complete the census online.

Residents are encouraged to complete their census online to avoid a census worker needing to visit at the door. Starting May 14, census workers will begin door-to-door collection for households that have not yet completed their census. The option to complete online will remain open during the door-to-door collection.

An online census is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way for the County to conduct a census. For residents, the online census is quick, convenient and secure.

Those who do not use or have access to a computer will have the option to provide their census information by phone. New this year, residents will also have the opportunity to complete their census in person at a kiosk in select County facilities.

The census gathers information such as the number of people who live in the home; their ages and gender; the type of dwelling; and length of residency in Strathcona County. All personal information remains secure and confidential, only aggregate numbers are reported.

The census count helps the County better understand the needs of the community.  Census information supports development decisions and is important in planning services and infrastructure, such as roads, transit, emergency services, and other municipal programs.

The Census Team will begin recruiting census workers on March 25. Online application forms will be available at strathcona.ca/census, and in-person applications will be accepted at the Census Office, starting March 28. The office is located at 140, 501 Festival Avenue in Sherwood Park, open weekdays 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The last municipal census was conducted in 2018; the census planned for 2020 was postponed due to the pandemic. More information about the municipal census, past population counts and reports, and how to apply to work the census is available at strathcona.ca/census.
