New Centre in the Park Parkade to open March 4

A new and second underground parkade in Centre in the Park will open to the public on Monday, March 4 — the Centre in the Park Parkade, located at 45 Festival Way in Sherwood Park.

Centre in the Park is a multi-use area being developed as a sustainable district. It combines municipal and cultural services, local government, residences, retail services and inviting public spaces. The Centre in the Park Parkade will serve to help meet the growing parking demands in this area.

Strathcona County partnered with the Savona by Salvi condominium development to build the Centre in the Park Parkade. Construction started in the spring of 2015. The County will own and operate this parkade, with the exception of the residential tenant parking.

The Centre in the Park Parkade provides over 300 more underground parking stalls for the public and tenants, and people working in the area to use. This supports access into this central hub and gathering place for our community.

“It’s exciting to see the core of Centre in the Park nearing completion, with new residential and commercial businesses continuing to open, making this area an even more vibrant destination and home for people,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “We recognize that parking is an expectation in such an area. In creating an integrated parking system in Centre in the Park, the County looked to find a good balance to provide sufficient parking and further sustainable urban design development.”

With the addition of this new parkade, the Centre in the Park area has approximately 1,300 parking spaces managed through the County’s integrated parking system of on-street, outdoor surface lots and underground parking. Underground parking aligns with the County’s sustainability goals, maximizing land use and avoiding a large expanse of surface parking. The Community Centre Parkade, the other underground parkade in the area and a part of this parking system, remains closed for restoration repairs.

Two hours free parking will be offered at the new Centre in the Park Parkade. Additional time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday–Friday is $2 per hour or $10 per day. After 5 p.m. on weekdays, and all day weekends and holidays, a $2 flat fee is charged.

Hours of operation are: Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Parking enforcement is in effect in the area; it is important to follow all posted signage. Centre in the Park parking information can be found on the County’s website.
