New tools support doing business in Strathcona County

Strathcona County has launched two new tools to help businesses open, expand and market their products and services. A competitive research tool and a GIS-based directory will provide easy to gather intelligence; and increased visibility to customers.

The business and investment intelligence tool is an online interactive resource for new entrepreneurs and existing businesses. The tool provides up-to-date local market knowledge including: business climate, industry trends, real estate listings, demographics, infrastructure, and competition analysis.

“Strathcona County is ready for new investment.  We’re making it easy to learn more about our community’s advantages,” says Director of Economic Development and Tourism Gerry Gabinet. “Making data accessible is critical to business decision making. With this tool, users can generate customized reports of market information, interactive maps and data. It gives them the information they need to ask the right questions, analyze data and make informed decisions.”

The business directory is a GIS (geographic information system) resource for sourcing companies, products, services and expertise located in Strathcona County. Businesses can add and market themselves through an online interactive map. Anyone can browse businesses through the map and filter by category, update old information and download business data.

For local and prospective business owners, the directory can help to reach their markets and attract customers. Investors can understand current business offerings and gaps. Realtors can export data on area attraction and business locations.  Developers can determine areas of growth.

“We’re a great place to start or grow a business. We are committed to economic diversification,” says Gabinet. “These tools are here to help businesses find out more about Strathcona County’s competitive advantages.”
